A Fine Little Group of Miniature Boxes in Silver & Hardstone. England, and Elsewhere, 19th - 20th century. Two scent boxes, well crafted, with gilt and grate interiors, from Victorian Birmingham. A third box, round, with tortoiseshell lid, inletted with silver wreath - - also Victorian. Two similar boxes from China: vintage and gilt, also with jade inset lids. Also antique Continental boxes, the covers with jasper/agates. Last, a newer craftsman's/art box in sterling, with nugget gold appliques to sides, and moss agate cover. Four of the pieces still with their Butterfield's lot stickers. Largest box: 2-3/8" x 1". Lot of 8 items.

"Czech" Silver Elephant and Glass Serving Bowl. Height 7.5 inches with silver elephant motif base and a blue and clear glass bowl. Possibly of Bohemian origin and of late 19th/early 20th century vintage. Along the base within two tiny punchmarks are a unicorn (?) and the numeral "13". Excellent condition and most attractive.

Hand Wrought Lidded Box in Sterling. Peru, c. 1970's. The box a decorative item manufactured for Kohler's. The box rectangular and fairly shallow, the sides as stepped moldings -- the whole very much resembling an antique wooden box. The base stamped "Peru; Sterling; 925/1000;" and "Kohler's." A few tiny dings to base, otherwise box overall clean and very well preserved. Size: 8-1/4" x 6" x 1-1/4".Weight: 411 grams.

Huge Decorative Fine Silver Serving Tray. This very large serving tray of uncertain origin and likely 20th century vintage measures 23 1/2" in diameter and weighs 10.5 pounds avoirdupois, i.e. aproximately 168 ounces gross silver weight. The center is engraved in a floral pattern and the edge design, from 3 to 4 inches in width, shows Bacchus heads and forest fable lore including wood nymphs, hunting scenes, animals, grape vines, cherubs, figure groups, etc. Within two small punches it is hallmarked "935" and "JR". It shows slight signs of use and an old cleaning or two, but is otherwise in excellent condition and most impressive.

Impressive and Opulent -- A Spectacular Victorian Silver Service. Service comprised of a partial set, consisting of: coffee or chocolate pot, a teapot, a creamer and a sugar bowl, the latter two with gilt interiors. The items consummately crafted by the family of London silversmiths, surnamed Bernard, who flourished in the 19th century. Their pieces dated 1842-43, and 1861-62. Each piece finely sculpted with floral sprays and arabesques, the handles formed as delightful woodland sprites, nearly resembling the classic "herm" of the ancient Greeks. Items fully hallmarked, with piece numbers: 099, 100, 146, and 147. Added to this is a truly ornate hot water kettle and warming stand, made by "AM," also London marks, and dating to 1878-79. On kettle, one cartouche engraved with heraldic emblem of coronet supporting winged globus cruciger. Rounding out lot,is a huge serving tray, silver plated, and initialed: LCA. This, and several others pieces re-initialed to L. & A. C in 1942. The Bernard-crafted pieces lightly used; the kettle and stand with more wear and polishing. Serving tray with typical use marks -- inspection suggested. Height of coffee pot: 12-1/4". Over 124 ounces of pure silver. Truly luxurious examples of the silversmith's art! Lot of 7 items.

Late 19th-Early 20th Century WMF Ink Well. This silver plated Empire Revival style ink well is 6 inches high and 12 inches long and is decorated in floral, seashell and mythical beast motifs. It is marked on the bottom "zg", "WMF G" and "I./O". On the front lower edge it has an engraved script signature or model name "Marionet". WMF is the maker mark of WÜRTTEMBERGISCHE METALLWARENFABRIK founded in 1880 in Germany. They made a wide range of silver and plated items for domestic and export markets, but lost the latter upon the outbreak of the first World War.
Most interesting and excellent condition overall.

Sterling Flatware by International. U.S.A., c. 1930's - 50's. In a simple pattern with raised borders, a stylized palmette at top, and row of bluebells(?) at base. Set comprised of 16 regular forks; 8 teaspoons; 12 round bowl soup spoons; 8 large spoons; 11 butter knives; 11 salad knives; and 10 dinner knives. The dinner and salad knives with silver plated steel blades. Set shows moderate, non-harsh wear, with a few pieces lightly, if used at all. Overall a clean set, without any monograms. Items total over 68 ounces of silver.
